Al's Café is a staple of the South Hills. You can't beat a place that has prime rib on the weekend!  I stop in here a couple of times a month for good food, beers, and a few games of darts.  Some of my other favorites are the Bleu burger, Pittsburgh steak wrap, and pork chop platter.  Also have killer fries and wings!  Ranch and bleu cheese dressings are a must, made in house.

Cozy atmosphere, good food, great selections...what more could you ask for?  We had a pleasant waitress, however she interrupted our conversation three times more than necessary.  I was visiting for the day, so we had lots to catch up on, or it wouldn't have mattered.

I am impressed by the menu, but even more by the sight of the hostess carefully sanitizing each used menu!  I never thought about it, but what an important job that is to keep germs from spreading.

We both chose the prime rib sandwich, cooked medium.  The fries were crispy and delicious.  Excellent choice for a leisurely lunch.

Nice atmosphere in the bar.  Nice bartenders.  Nice TVs to watch a game.   WAY WAY overpriced beer.  It is cheaper to buy a bottle of beer at these places...The Capital Grill, McCormick and Schmick, Mitchell's, and Ruth Chris.  These are the prices you pay at a pirate, Steeler, or Penguin game.

$7.10 for a 12oz IPA bottle that is  readily available everyday everywhere.  It is a 450% mark up.  I will buy one at duffys for 1.50 and go outside to drink it with the smokers.

Friends decided on Al's for lunch so I'll start that I was tagging along. The good thing about the place is...it's big. Lots and lots of room. They must like big, because the menu is also huge. That is not a complement. It was clear looking around the room (which looked like a retirement home...) that this is a place where quantity wins out over quality. Very typical menu with nothing of any real interest - burgers, chicken in various formats, fries. I had a salad that was typical old school Pittsburgh bland. My friends ordered chicken wraps and a Reuben sandwich. They were ok, but let's talk prices. I suppose they must still be paying a hefty loan or mortgage payment b/c the prices were pretty steep for pretty bland and Sysco sourced food. The bar looked ok. Maybe I'll have a liquid lunch if I come back cycling on the Montour Trail.

I went here tonight for the first time. Clean, well run with extremely attentive staff. Huge menu with something for everyone. I had the "small" fried fish sandwich which was enough to fill up a giant. It was served piping hot as were the fries. The tartar sauce was excellent and the cold slaw was better than I expected.  I splurged on dessert with a slice of raspberry cheesecake which was absolutely decadent. Everything I saw the other guests get looked equally appealing. I will be coming back to this family style restaurant to try out more of their menu.
